Partnership Walk
Inaugurated in 1995, Partnership Walks have expanded
to five major cities across the U.S., including Atlanta,
Chicago, Dallas, Houston and Los Angeles. Partnership
Walk is a public event to raise awareness about global
poverty and bridge Americans’ spirit of generosity by
reaching out to uplift people living in extreme poverty.
A major feature of the Walk is the Village In Action with
interactive exhibits designed by participants from local
communities. Village in Action showcases the impact
of the Foundation’s projects and provides visitors with a
pathway to be engaged as global citizens.

Partnership Trek
The inaugural PartnershipsInAction Trek was held in San Francisco in 2008 with a a 5.5 mile hike across the Golden Gate Bridge. Trek participants have the opportunity to learn how people in developing countries create innovative, practical solutions to overcome the challenges of low income, poor health conditions and limited educational opportunities through community organizing, microfinance and self-help programs. In 2008, Michael Wolfe, author, filmmaker and
journalist spoke to the crowd at Partnership
Trek in San Francisco with these words:
“Imagine for a moment that we all live here and that across that bridge is a half of the world’s population that lives on less than $2 a day. What is holding up that bridge is a lot of wire and supports and portals that are made out of projects that somebody has imagined and that we have all in our way - little by little, dime by dime and dollar by dollar - helped along. You heard a short list of a much longer list of projects around the world, initiatives and support projects to help farmers, students, doctors, nurses, ill people and poor people around the world on the other side of that bridge. As many projects as there are supports in that bridge the Aga Khan Foundation has put these things into place for us to rise to the occasion of just walking across that bridge, of just making a little contact with the other side of the world.”

Partnership 3k
In 2008, over 1,600 participated in the inaugural Partnership 3k Walk in Orlando, raising over $160,000. The 3-kilometer walk at Lake Eola Park brought together families, friends, students and leaders in government, business and the arts for a day of learning activities, fundraising and culturally diverse performances. One of the 3k Walk’s most inspiring features was the exhibition of Global Innovations in Action, where participants of all ages had an opportunity to engage in interactive exhibits and learn how people in developing countries create innovative solutions to overcome the challenges of low income, poor health conditions and limited educational opportunities.

gathered in a spirit of
thinking globally and
acting locally to raise

One of the major highlights of Partnership Day is Village in Action where visitors of all ages are able to engage in educational activities to experience first-hand the challenges faced by people in the developing countries. Participants can discover how Aga Khan Foundation, through partnerships with other public and private agencies, creates solutions to overcome low income, poor health conditions and limited educational opportunities. Participants were able to partake in a variety of entertainment activities and lively cultural performances.
